Wall Street Not Kind to Lionsgate

2 January 2009 11:27 AM, PST | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Some interesting reading about the future of Lionsgate after back to back dull thuds at the box office. First, Punisher: War Zone tanked and was unceremoniously pulled from theaters after only three weeks and $8 million earned. Then came The Spirit, which opened to resoundingly negative reviews and had only made $12 million through its first six days.

On Tuesday, analysts from the investment bank Caris & Co. painted a less-than-rosy picture for Lionsgate, downgraded the stock to "above average" from "buy." Said the company's David Miller in a message to his clients, "Explanation for the weakness came primarily from a smattering of negative reviews, coupled with heavy competition from Marley & Me, which opened with a stellar $37.0 million in gross receipts."

Miller said that a lot is riding on the studio's next major release, My Bloody Valentine 3-D. If it's a dud, the studio would suffer a third major shelacking in less than 60 days.

Discuss: Movie Resolutions for the New Year

1 January 2009 5:33 PM, PST | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

I generally don't "do" New Years' resolutions. Partially because I'm lazy but also because I'm pretty much perfect, and I think it's kind of disrespectful to God if I try to improve myself too much. But this year I'm actively working on a spec script, and so I've resolved myself to getting the damn thing finished. I've also made a resolution to never again see a movie at the UA Grant Plaza theater, but that decision won't mean a thing if you don't live in Northeast Philadelphia.

And then here are a list of resolutions I should make, but would never be able to follow through on:

1. No more enjoyment of Milla Jovovich movies.

2. Stop treating horror flicks like real movies when I watch / review them.

3. No more soda pop purchases at the multiplex!

4. Find something amusing about Adam Sandler.

5. Stop lusting over Jennifer Connelly already!

6. Throw in the towel on M. Night Shyamalan.

Little Rudy Huxtable Portrayer, Keisha Knight Pulliam Takes On Grown Up Role In Tyler Perry Film

1 January 2009 5:57 AM, PST | From icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news

At age six, Keisha Knight Pulliam became the youngest actress to ever be nominated for an Emmy Award for her portrayal as Rudy Huxtable--the youngest child in the Huxtable family--on the wildly popular NBC sitcom, "The Cosby Show."

Now at age 29, Pulliam is trying out a new, darker and definitely more grown up role. Tyler Perry, creator of the popular movies featuring the character, "Madea", has cast Pulliam as Candace "Candy" Washington, a heroin-addicted prostitute who the pistol-packing Madea befriends after both women end up in jail in the upcoming movie, Madea Goes to Jail.

Pulliam told Black Voices.com that it was a very different role for her and a lot of hard work because it is a darker role. Pulliam said she really had to try and get into character having not had any history of drug abuse or prostitution. The actress did talk to a woman who
