Turning 40 was a big deal for Sharon Stone because suddenly movie roles and freebies dried up.
The actress admits she was looking forward to becoming a 40 something back in 1998, but ageist attitudes to Hollywood stars left her floored.
She tells More magazine, "I thought... 'I'm fantastic and sexy and amazing!'
"(But) it was like, 'You have leprosy.' I couldn't get a dress or a job."
She bounced back with acclaimed roles in the movies Broken Flowers and Bobby, and turned 50 earlier this year.
