The magical mechanical box that spews out Eddie Murphy comedies treats us this year with Meet Dave. The “Dave” of the title is actually an intergalactic human sized and shaped spaceship piloted by tiny little aliens, just like in Men in Black or, from the point of view of Trelane in “The Squire of Gothos,” the crew on Star Trek. There’s this tiny little Eddie Murphy Captain Kirk in charge of the crew of the Dave, and they explore Manhattan, on a mission to find a device that was sent down earlier to drain the earth’s sea that landed mistakenly in the fishbowl of the little boy who’s dad recently died… Sigh… was this how the pitch session went? Really?
