Pitt: 'Jolie Didn't Wreck My Marriage'

7 January 2009 4:05 AM, PST

Brad Pitt has attempted to quash rumours Angelina Jolie wrecked his marriage to Jennifer Aniston by insisting there was no "dastardly affair".

The former Friends star hit out at the Tomb Raider actress in October when she branded Jolie "uncool" for admitting she had fallen in love with Pitt while making 2005's Mr. + Mrs. Smith - when he was still married to Aniston.

But Pitt has rushed to his partner's defence by declaring they did not have an affair.

He tells the February issue of U.S. magazine W, "What people don't understand is that we filmed Mr. + Mrs. Smith for a year. We were still filming after Jen (Aniston) and I split up.

"Even then it doesn't mean that there was some kind of dastardly affair. There wasn't."

And Pitt insists he and Aniston have managed to maintain an amicable relationship - despite tabloid reports of a supposed rivalry between the actress and her ex-husband's new love.

He adds, "I'm very proud of the way that it was handled. It was respectful. Listen, man, Jen is a sweetheart. I think she got dragged into that one, and then there's a second round to all that Angie versus Jen. It's so created.

"We still check in with each other. She was a big part of my life, and me hers. I don't see how there cannot be (that). That's life, man. That's life."

Getty Addresses Firing Reports

7 January 2009 6:14 AM, PST

Actor Balthazar Getty has dismissed reports he is facing the axe from hit TV show Brothers + Sisters, insisting he and his castmates are still like a real family.

Rumours suggesting Getty will be fired from the show over his romance with British actress Sienna Miller refuse to go away, with some insiders claiming he has alienated himself from his castmates after cheating on his wife Rosetta.

But Getty tells America's TV Guide that's simply not the case.

He states, "There were all these stories that the set was divided... but we're family. You have ups and downs, but you stay together and love each other without judgment."

But the actor isn't ruling out the fact his 2008 tabloid scandal may have put him in the firing line: "I'd like to stay on the show and finish out my contract at the very least.

"At the end of the day, if they make that decision (to fire me), that's fine, too. It's not my last stop on the train."

Evans Supports Gay Marriage

7 January 2009 5:24 PM, PST

Fantastic Four star Chris Evans has come out in support of gay marriage - insisting it is "appalling" for homosexuals in America to be denied the right to wed.

Evans, whose younger brother, Scott, is openly gay, is convinced that U.S. politicians will eventually step in and change the country's laws regarding same-sex unions.

Homosexual couples in California were last year granted the right to wed, but had their rights revoked just months later after the passing of the Proposition 8 bill, which reversed the previous ruling permitting the unions.

And Evans is disgusted that modern society can still be so prejudiced against gay relationships.

He says, "It's mindboggling and appalling that human beings are being denied civil rights in this country. But time will heal all. I have to believe that in 10 years we won't be having this conversation. We'll be having another one, because we'll always find someone to persecute."

Aames Fights Back After Thanksgiving Suicide Attempt

7 January 2009 5:24 PM, PST

Former U.S. sitcom star Willie Aames is battling back after surviving a suicide attempt on Thanksgiving Day.

The 46-year-old Charles in Charge actor took a cocktail of alcohol and pills and slashed his throat after suffering a breakdown in Los Angeles.

In an interview with Star magazine, Aames reveals he hit rock bottom after he was declared bankrupt; had his car repossessed, and his wife of 22 years, Maylo, asked for a divorce - all within the space of a month.

He fled their Kansas home, rented a room in Los Angeles, and made an attempt on his life.

Aames reveals, "I stole a bottle of Jack Daniel's from the guy I was renting the room from. I'd been sober for 20 years when I took that first drink. I was also taking anti-depressants and anti-anxiety pills. It got so bad, I put a knife to my throat and cut myself in six places.

"The police came, put me in handcuffs and whisked me away. I was completely devastated. I kept asking, 'What did I do wrong?'"

Aames spent time in a California psychiatric ward, but is now out and attempting to start a new life as a furniture builder.

He tells Star, "I hope I can inspire other people with my experiences."

Jackson Turns His Back On Meth

7 January 2009 5:24 PM, PST

Baywatch star Jeremy Jackson has vowed never to use methamphetamines again after he was arrested for setting up a home laboratory to 'cook' his drugs in 2005.

The former child star admits he was hooked on the drug the first time he tried it because "it was like I had found the key to life that I had been looking for".

He recalls, "Everything was perfect. I felt in tune, like all my senses had been heightened by one thousand. I was on a high."

But the effects of the drug took their toll on him. He tells In Touch magazine, "I would have uncontrollable nosebleeds. I wasn't even snorting stuff and blood was just gushing from my head.

"I would wake up in the morning with horrible pain in my lower back from all the toxins I was putting in me, but I didn't give a crap as long as I could get more."

But even drastic weight loss didn't make Jackson give up his nasty habit; it took a police raid to do that.

He tells the publication, "My world completely collapsed in one instant and I had this moment of clarity where I realised, 'Wow, I have done this all to myself'."

Now, sober for over three years, Jackson admits he's a lucky man: "I have a great relationship with my family, a girlfriend who loves me and a new happiness, which I didn't think was possible. I wouldn't give it up for the world."

Johansson Proposal Thrill

7 January 2009 5:24 PM, PST

Scarlett Johansson "squealed with delight" when husband Ryan Reynolds proposed.

The couple married in secret in Reynolds' native Canada in September, a year after they began dating, and four months after he popped the question.

Johansson insists the proposal was expected and not a surprise - but she was still overwhelmed with emotion.

She tells the February issue of Harper's Bazaar, "I wasn't surprised that it was happening, but anyone being presented with a beautiful diamond ring, as a girl, you just squeal with delight. You say you can't believe it, but of course you really can."

In the interview Johansson laughs off rumours she is already pregnant with the couple's first child - insisting babies are a long way off.

She jokes, "I've been pregnant several times. With, like, sextuplets. That must mean I've been eating way too many bagels or something. I'm not pregnant and I'm not going to be anytime soon."

Cancer Pain Helped Swayze's Acting

7 January 2009 5:24 PM, PST

Patrick Swayze has credited the pain he feels as he battles pancreatic cancer for giving his acting an edge.

The movie star confounded experts when he signed up for a new TV series after discovering he had inoperable pancreatic cancer early last year, but he insists the illness gave him an inner rage he needed for the tense cop drama.

Swayze admits he refused all painkillers while he was working - because he didn't want to dull his senses. And so he acted through the pain.

He explains, "When you're shooting you can't do drugs. I can't do Hydrocodone or Vicodin or these kinds of things that take the edge off of it, 'cause it takes the edge off of your brain."

Brolin Upset About Crowe Comments

7 January 2009 5:24 PM, PST

Josh Brolin has publicly apologised for comments he made about Russell Crowe at the New York Film Critics Awards on Monday night.

The Milk star has blamed his alcohol intake and the "ambiance" of the prizegiving for what he said to the Big Apple's film experts.

Brolin took the stage at the glitzy dinner after award winner and Milk co-star Sean Penn poked fun at him, and decided to lash out at Crowe - his American Gangster co-star, stating, "Quite the actor, that Sean Penn. He's not an a**hole like Russell Crowe."

And Brolin now admits he's ashamed of his behaviour at the awards dinner.

He tells HollyScoop.com, "It was the ambiance of the room. I love him (Crowe). I think he's amazing. He's a friend. I was bummed out when I saw that."
