Mickey Rourke To Bodyslam Tony Stark
7 January 2009 7:26 PM, PST
According to Variety, Mickey Rourke is in talks to play Iron Man 2‘s villian, a tattooed Russian arms dealer with his own nuclear-powered suit, who may or may not be the Crimson Dynamo. The script is as yet unfinished so we can consider this to be the very earliest stages of discussions, but putting Downey Jr. and Rourke on the screen together sounds like raw awesomness from where I sit. And can you imagine the stories that would come out when these two “former” bad boys are the set together? The stuff of legend. It’s not like we weren’t already pumped for Iron Man 2. Recent developments like Tim Robbins playing Stark’s father in a flashback (and probably key to the development of Steve Rogers/Captain America’s Super Serum) and today’s announcement has us as stiff as vibranium. Crimson Dynamo, should that indeed be the character Rourke plays,

Are You Awkward?
7 January 2009 7:14 PM, PST
We got a funny email from our friend Lindsey Mesenbourg of Universal Pictures today. If you are a dorky teen (or can pass) and are awkward enough to pass for a McLovin’ type, then you might have a role in a forthcoming major motion picture. The info is below. And to you mouthbreathers, we say, good luck. ‘Tr2n’ Gains Lead Actor, Loses Idiotic Numeral
7 January 2009 4:44 PM, PST
This just in. The male lead in Tron will be Garrett Hedlund. Wait, what? Didn’t we just report that both Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner will be back reprising their roles of Flynn (and possibly Clu) and Alan One/Tron? And that the newfangled technology from Benjamin Button would help that become a reality? Yes we did, but that never meant that they would be the lead of the film. Hell, someone has got to make out with Olivia Wilde and neither of those dudes is gonna get that lucky. The word on the street today is that Garrett Hedlund, from Friday Night Lights, Georgia Rule, Eragon and Troy (he played Patroclus, Brad Pitt’s boy-crush) will get sucked into the McP to fight off angry computer matrices with frisbees (I so effing love Tron!) We’re hardly die hard Garret Hedlund fans (we admit, we had to look

Japanese ‘Watchmen’ Trailer Reminds Us Why The Studios Are Bickering
7 January 2009 4:35 PM, PST
Because every new image looks really sweet. If you haven’t seen it yet, take a look below. Alas, one of the nicer touches that was revealed to us when we saw Zack Snyder’s road show is the reveal that Comedian killed JFK. In the finished film this will be set to the tune of Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are A-Changin’,” here it is set to Philip Glass’ score to Godfrey Reggio’s film Koyaanisqatsi. This theme will later be heard during the “origin of Dr. Manhattan” sequence (where you see his giant blue schlong.) Can you use another movie’s music in your movie? Watchmen can. And remember, dig all our Watchmen Spoilers in our Spoiler Zone.

Olivia’s Wilde ‘Tr2n’ Spoilers
6 January 2009 5:03 PM, PST
The mouthbreathing nerds over at SciFire wire recently spoke with Olivia Wilde (who we just learned is Alex Cockburn’s niece) and she went on the record a bit about Tron 2 a/k/a Tr2n a/k/a Tron 2.0, in which Wilde plays the female lead. To wit: Bruce Boxleitner And Jeff Bridges will be in the film. It ain’t all green screen. Some sets have been built at Vancouver film facilities. The newfangled reverse-aging tech you saw in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button will be in effect. Does this mean Flynn will fight Clu? Or will Tron look directly in the eyes of his User, Alan One? Oooh, my circuits are overloading!! More news at our Tron 2 spoilers page. And still no word if Tron Guy will make an appearance. Image copyright 2008 Denise Truscello/WireImage.com
