Ugh, I have to save the world. Trailer for Thor At The Bus Stop

21 November 2008 1:57 PM, PST

Thor has this problem see, he's got to get across town to save the world but nobody seems to care. Except that is one little girl who says "thanks".

"Thor At The Bus Stop is a comedy that begins with Thor, the Norse God of Lightning, as he makes his final journey through a suburban neighborhood on the day he is going to die fighting to save the world - and nobody cares. Thor starts a chain reaction of interweaving story-lines packed with zany characters and themes about goodness and the power of cool."

I have no idea when this will be dropping but it looks so insane we're going to see if we can get a screener. Trailer after the break!

21 November 2008 9:24 AM, PST

We just receive word from Ars Nova that Scott Sanders' snazzy looking retro actioner, Black Dynamite, has been accepted into the 2009 Sundance Film Festival! Awesome news for those you fortunate enough to be cooling your boots up in the mountains next year.

This is the story of 1970’s action legend Black Dynamite. When “The Man” murders his brother, pumps heroin into local orphanages, and floods the ghetto with adulterated malt liquor, Black Dynamite is the one hero willing to fight all the way from the blood-soaked city streets to the hallowed halls of the Honky House.

We were also directed to this great new red band trailer so check it out honky!!

Frist footage from martial arts horror comedy Samurai Zombie

21 November 2008 7:50 AM, PST

Those Asian experts over at 24fps have found the first footage for Tak Sakaguchi's upcoming horror/action flick Samurai Zombie and, while quite wacky, it still manages to impress with some great character acting and well choreographed sword play.

A family on a trip encounters a man threatening them with a gun on a desolate mountain trail. At a moment of maximum tension, a couple shows up out of nowhere, kill the man and disappears again. Shortly after a lunatic old lady comes and warns them of their impending death. The frightened family is headed for a showdown with Samurai Zombies resurrected from their graves.

Here's the deal though. The footage was presented as part of a press conference with the cast and crew so if you can't speak Japanese or you start to tire of the cast's awesome hairdos, you may want to fast forward to about 5:30 and watch the 4 short clips.

The Czechs take a stab at rotoscoping in Alois Nebel

20 November 2008 3:39 PM, PST

Shot with live actors then completely rotoscoped in black and white (like A Scanner Darkly) Alois Nebel is an odd film I've been tracking out of Czechoslovakia. It's based on some comics of the same name by Jaroslav Rudiš and Jaromir 99 (weird name huh?) and is directed by Tomas Lunak. The story revovles around a man who has spent his whole life working in the railways. From what I can gather from a translation:

"It is the end of the eighties. Alois Nebel works as a signaller in a small station. Alois Nebel is a loner. His days at the station are peaceful until .. (can't figure this part out). Since then strange things happen and he begins to have hallucinations. "

The animation itself looks incredible, but the story itself sounds fascinating. If any of our Czech readers could provide more info on this, please do so in the comments.

Trailer for Gen Takahashi's Goth

20 November 2008 11:30 AM, PST

Based on the horror novel of the same name written by Otsu-ich, the story is about two high school students fascinated by murder. The book is comprised of 6 short stories, and it's also been converted into a Manga. We reported earlier on the teaser here.

"High school students Itsuki Kamiyama and Yoru Morino share an odd fascination with human cruelty and murder. Kamiyama knew they would share a connection as soon as he noticed a cut mark on her wrist. Together they track a brutal serial killer in an attempt to find the latest two victims—not necessarily to help bring the killer to justice, but simply for their own morbid need to inspect his or her handiwork."

Chilling trailer for Italian apocalypse short H5N1

19 November 2008 9:11 PM, PST

Does anyone out there remember the ABC TV movie Fatal Contact: Bird Flu in America? It came out about two years ago when Avian Bird Flu hysteria was at its peak. I only bring it up because that was the last Pa film I can remember that used the bird flu as a concept. H5N1, a new Italian short written and directed by 27 year old R. De Feo, takes the scenario one step further adding a government conspiracy and cover-up into the mix.

In the short-movie "H5N1" the influenza has become a pandemic outbreak, and governments of all the World hide the truth about the illness...

H5N1 has been winning tons of awards at festivals lately and after you watch the trailer you'll see why. It starts off small but as the haunting music swells to crescendo so too do the visuals exapand to reveal some truly chilling apocalyptic imagery.

Watch Martin Gauvreau's scifi short Agnieszka 2039 and more online!

19 November 2008 1:40 PM, PST

One of our favorite up and coming genre filmmakers, Martin Gauvreau, has decided to put all of his short films online for free, which currently amounts to Agnieszka 2039, Apolonia Dream, and Alicja Wonderland. While I've done reviews of a couple of his films, there's really no need to link them here as you can now watch them in full in high-def. My personal favorite is Agnieszka 2039 which got heavy play all around the globe and won countless awards.

"Joy and pain go hand in hand when an angelic being is delivered the box of eternity and subjected to the fateful decision of the gods."

You can go to Martin's official website to enjoy!

Max Brooks is stoked about the team that's adapting World War Z

19 November 2008 10:53 AM, PST

Last week, zombie aficionado Max Brooks appeared on Fangoria Radio to talk about his upcoming graphic novel Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks as well as the upcoming World War Z movie. You may remember that it was reported that 007 director Marc Forster would be helming the long overdue project written by J. Michael Straczynski. Here's what Brooks had to say about the team:

“I’m thrilled that the man who created Babylon 5 is working on this movie. I can’t give it away, but Straczynski found a way to tie it all together. The last draft I read was amazing.”

“Now that we have a director, we have a captain of the ship. Marc will determine start date, cast, locations, etc. For me personally, I’m content to go off to Iceland and let them make their movie.”

We reviewed the screenplay for Wwz a while back, but it

The Days Before offers alien apocalypse with a time twist

19 November 2008 8:50 AM, PST

Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. just snapped up a sci-fi action spec script from screenwriter Chad St. John that offers a unique and intriguing angle on the alien apocalypse scenario we all know and love. Basically it's your standard "aliens want us all dead" line but with a twist. They try to wipe us out one day at a time by traveling into the past. Kind of like Terminator meets Independence Day.

Story centers on aliens invading Earth by traveling backwards through time and wiping out humanity -- yesterday by yesterday -- while one man stays a yesterday ahead of them, trying to convince the world that the end is coming again.

Why those pesky aliens want us all dead this time has not been made clear yet but since this sounds so cool we'll be sure to keep you posted. Oh, and btw the still to the right

Looking for an apocalyptic cyberpunk fix? Check out Baby Boom

18 November 2008 2:18 PM, PST

Baby Boom is an an impressive looking cyber-war short coming from French newcomer Thierry Lorenzi. But honestly, beyond that we don't know much. There are a plethora of official pages for the film including a website, and a Myspace page, but they're all in French. Here's a bad interflab translation of the synopsis:

A sheriff, a priest, a mercenary, a woman, a devastated ground. Three men, a androïde female, a bunker and a war. The account is good…

Almost sounds like the beginning of a lude joke doesn't it? Well luckily the film looks to be no joke as you'll see by the teaser after the break. I've also included a short making of video as well. Tell me this doesn't look intriguing...

Trailer for Sherwood forest deviancy Robber Girls (Räuberinnen)

18 November 2008 1:34 PM, PST

Let me try and explain this: It's a cross between Robin Hood, deviancy and perversion, with a liberal dose of post-pre misandry. Confused? Ok think sexual deviancy with a bunch of women that rob people in a forest sometime in the past and you have Robber Girls. I've actually been watching this for a while and just found a trailer yesterday, and while it's Carla Lia Monti's first feature, it looks like a winner.

"Set some time in the undeterminable past: Emily is sent to work and live in his excellency's castle. She manages to escape into the woods, where she meets some lively hookers. Together they become Robber Girls taking a stand and fighting the patriarchy."

Trailer for Patrice Toye's Nowhere Man

18 November 2008 10:32 AM, PST

what initially caught my eye were the beautiful stills for this flick, but even better the storyline sounds quite fantastic. I've been eagerly awaiting a trailer ever since and finally found one yesterday, and while it doesn't contain any subs it does showcase the fantastic photography with a hint of German Expressionism.

"Tomas is in his 40s. He lives a seemingly normal and good life. His wife Sara is a beautiful and gentle woman, well thought of by everybody. The live in a nice house in the outskirts of a Belgian city. They have good jobs. But for years, Tomas has been toying with a secret dream of abandoning it all and disappearing out of his life and into some new undefined reality. His secret fantasies have added color and excitement to his otherwise dull life. Time has come to act, and one spring day he tricks the world into believing he is dead.

Stop motion awesomeness in short film Insanophenia

18 November 2008 9:22 AM, PST

Steven Kostanski's 10 minute short film Insanophenia is a technically astounding slice of the macabre. Full of stop motion ghoulies and mutants that look like they're right out Rob Botin's demo reel, Insanophenia is like a cross between The Thing, The Gate and that Tool video for "Sober."

Two dim-witted exterminators are about to find there are more disturbing things than the sexual advances of their maniacal supervisor as they descend into a nightmarish world of indescribable terror.

Most recently, Insanophenia played at the Montreal Underground Film Festival to rave reviews but we've got the entire short after the break so you can beat the crowds and watch the whole thing in the comfort of your own cubical right now!

Trailer and image gallery for Amir Valinia's Mutants

18 November 2008 8:32 AM, PST

I've been clocking Amir Valinia's Mutants (not to be confused with David Morley's Mutants) for a while now and I'm honestly not sure why I've never posted anything on it yet. I mean, while it looks pretty budget it's got scifi mainstay Michael Ironside in it and that's gotta count for something right (go Rough Necks!)

A mad scientist is hired by a greedy sugar manufacturer to create an additive designed to be the most addictive substance in the world. Instead, he engineers it to turn human beings into killer mutants, and only the company’s security head & his girlfriend can stop the plague from spreading worldwide.

We've got some sales art, a couple of alternative posters, and the film's trailer after the break.

Oh... my... word...Amazing stills from Sandy Collora's Hunter Prey

17 November 2008 8:40 PM, PST

Here's what you need to know: Sandy Collora, director of the uber popular fan film Batman: Dead End, is making a feature length movie with Nick Damon called Hunter Prey. It's an epic, yet intimate, scifi war film set on a alien world, and it looks crazy good.

Our pals at io9 scored a sit down with Collora to discuss the ins and outs of his experience making the film that's still in production. Below are a couple of Collora's quotes about the project:

"The film centers around a crew of special forces commandos who must recapture an alien prisoner that has escaped after the military transport ship carrying it crashes on a desolate and hostile planet."

"I love the Science Fiction and Fantasy films of the seventies and eighties. They were all very inspirational to me when I was a kid, and responsible to a large degree, for influencing

NY Horror Film Fest: Review of the lawless horror film Bad Biology

17 November 2008 7:57 PM, PST

Year: 2008

Release date:

Director: Frank Henenlotter

Writer: Frank Henenlotter / R.A. Thorburn

IMDb: link

Trailer: link (Nsfw!!)

Review by: Bob Doto

Rating: 8.5 out of 10

Frank Henenlotter: 2008 NY Horror Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient.

Bad Biology: Best Feature Film, Best Special Effects.

Unlike zombie films where agreed upon laws and rules govern the plot’s trajectory (head-shot = death, bite = infection), Henenlotter’s films are seemingly lawless, and therefore completely rhizomic and anarchistic in nature. This means that Henelotter’s films obey only the laws of Henenlotter and therefore can project out in any and all directions. If Romero is a Puritan then Henenlotter is the antinomian par excellence.

Try this: Henenlotter’s latest film Bad Biology is the story of Jennifer (Charlee Danielson) who is blessed/cursed with having clitorii buried throughout her body (seven alone inside her vagina), which allows her to experience seven times the pleasure of any other woman.
