  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): In one scene, the TV news announcer states that Hancock has been taken to "Los Angeles General Hospital" but in the following scene, there is an exterior shot of the hospital with the sign "Mercy General Hospital".

  • Continuity: The amount of spaghetti and meatballs in the bowl, when Hancock first arrives at Ray's house and is invited for diner, changes between shots.

  • Continuity: In the opening scene when an SUV is fleeing the police it turns a corner and crashes into the side of a car. In the next scene the side of the SUV has no damage.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Hancock picks up the police cruiser to protect the downed female officer, it can be seen that the car has no transmission or prop-shaft, despite having supposedly just been driven to the heist.

  • Continuity: In the beginning of the film, during the car chase when Hancock is in back of the suspect's car and breaks the bottle, the next shot has him holding a different looking, very obviously fake broken bottle.

  • Continuity: When Ray is waiting in traffic on the train tracks, he is talking to his wife on the cell phone, holding it up to his left ear. He ends the conversation. But in a later long shot, the phone is still being held up to his left ear.

  • Continuity: After impaling the SUV on the tower, Hancock is drinking in a bar. Close shots show him holding a bottle of beer in his left hand whereas long shots show the bottle in his right hand.

  • Continuity: When Hancock is talking to Mary whilst eating a banana, the banana appears eaten in one shot and then back to uneaten in the next.

  • Continuity: After Mary gets out of Hancock's trailer, the top of some car is seen and Mary gets into it. But in the next shot they are standing in front of each other and there's no car, as it wasn't there when Mary came.

  • Continuity: When Mary throws Hancock out of the house we see him crash into a gold Dodge Intrepid. When we see the aftermath the next morning the Intrepid is fine and the cars on the other side of the street are the ones damaged.

  • Continuity: In the latter part of the movie, Hancock talks to Mary about the way they kissed - but they never did kiss, because Mary threw him through the wall before their lips touched. (It is known that there was a lot cut out of the original version.)

  • Crew or equipment visible: Multiple times throughout the movie you can see the monitors reflected in Hancock's glasses.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): In the YouTube video of the whale, 'Walter' is called a gray whale by Ray (Jason Bateman), but it is clearly a humpback.

  • Continuity: When Hancock throws the Ray's car into the other cars and stops the train, you can see Ray's windshield gets slightly cracked. When Hancock drags the car into the driveway a few moments later the windshield is as good as new.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: In the bedroom scene with Ray and Mary, in the evening after Ray meets Hancock for the first time, when the shot follows their dog across the room, what appears to be a crew member pushing the dog from behind the dresser is actually just the shadow of the dog's tail on the wall. If you watch the dog you'll see he is watching something/someone for a signal to the left of the screen behind the bed.

  • Anachronisms: Upon very close inspection of Hancock's 1931 Movie Ticket to Frankenstein, the date on the stub reads 21 June 1931. Universal's Frankenstein was not released until 4 November 1931.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Hancock says that when the nurse tried to give him a shot the needle bent. Hancock stabs Mary with a knife and it too bends. But if you look at her ears there are earrings - it's very plausible that she got them pierced during the time Hancock and her were together in the past.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: (1:03:40) When the people are running away in fear from the tornadoes, suddenly in the left of the screen, a strange character runs to the right of the screen. The character is about twice as tall as the normal people and has a robot-like appearance. It's a street performer on stilts and in a costume.

  • Continuity: When Ray is about to be hit by the train, long shots show that his car is on the tracks where as shots of in the car you can see out his window that the car appears not to even be on the tracks.

  • Continuity: When Ray is lying drunk on his bed, Hancock helps him to sit up. In the first shot Hancock is holding Ray by his wrist, in the next he's holding Ray by his hand.

>>> WARNING: Here Be Spoilers <<<

Goofs below here contain information that may give away important plot points. You may not want to read any further if you've not already seen this title.

  • Continuity: SPOILER: When Mary is in the hospital bed, just after being shot, the blood stain on her shirt changes in between shots.

  • Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: Near the end of the movie when Mary is 'dying', the monitor has a label at the top of the screen that says 'leads off' showing that the monitor isn't actually hooked up.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: SPOILER: According to the movie's premise, Hancock and Mary become mortal and weak when in proximity to each other. However, they affect each other not immediately, but over time as they spend more time together. This explains why Hancock was unfazed when Mary threw him through the wall, and why Mary was unharmed when Hancock attempted to stab her in the kitchen.
