Pick of 2008: The three best men's fashion spots

28 November 2008 2:42 AM, PST | From Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news

Last week, we took stock of the best women’s fashions that hit cinema screens in 2008 and agreed that it had been a good year for the ladies. But how did it fare for the fellas? Not too shabby, thanks for asking. This past year has seen a whole glut of classy chaps parade their goods on the big screen. From young ‘uns like Zac Efron in High School Musical 3: Senior Year working the check shirts and skinny ties of today’s trends to the more established gentlemanly look of James Bond’s formal suits in Quantum of Solace. The fashions have reflected all weathers – the wintry knitwear in Zack and Miri Make a Porno to the sunny beachwear of Forgetting Sarah Marshall and both sides of the law – from superheroes Tony Stark (Iron Man) and Bruce Wayne (The Dark Knight) to the underworld criminals in RocknRolla. And we

Mila Kunis Opens Denzel's 'Book of Eli'

23 November 2008 2:05 AM, PST | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Her career rolling along quite nicely these days, That 70s Show alum Mila Kunis may have just inked her most high-profile movie gig yet.

The Hollywood Reporter says Kunis will co-star with Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman in The Book of Eli, a new thrilla that will probably be a lot like the rest of Denzel's medium-budget action flicks, only set slightly in the future. He plays a man trying to protect a book that may hold the key to saving civilization. Let's hope it's not The Secret.

Kunis will portray a mysterious woman named Solara, who at first is out to wreck Eli's mission but ultimately joins him in his quest. It's a big step up from her completely useless role in Max Payne and might be a lateral move in terms of screen time from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, in which she was pretty good, all things considered. But

Mila Kunis Saves Us From The Apocalypse

21 November 2008 10:58 AM, PST | From cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news

ila Kunis has had roles in two high-profile movies this year that gave audiences very, very different impressions. If you caught her in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, you probably think of her as a pretty, charming dream girl. But if you saw Max Payne, you'd wonder why anyone would sign on for such a thankless role that involved nothing but holding a gun. Kunis really seems to be best-suited to comedy, which is why I wonder about her new role in The Book of Eli, a post-apocalyptic thriller starring Denzel Washington. The Hollywood Reporter says she'll play Solara, who is at first hired to betray Washington's Eli, a hero trying to find a book that could save humanity. Whether motivated by strong morals or Washington's irresistible charm, Solara eventually joins him on his quest. The movie sounds like a whole lot of nonsense, but then, so do a lot of great

BBC Inquiry Slams Brand And Ross

21 November 2008 8:05 AM, PST | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Comedian Russell Brand and British TV presenter Jonathan Ross' lewd phone calls to actor Andrew Sachs were "grossly offensive" and "unjustifiable", according to an official probe by the BBC Trust.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall star Brand quit his BBC Radio 2 show after he and fellow broadcaster Ross were slammed for leaving voicemail messages on Fawlty Towers star Sachs' phone, in which they discussed Brand's fling with the 78-year-old's granddaughter Georgina Baillie.

Ross was subsequently suspended for three months, and now an investigation by the BBC Trust - the BBC's independent watchdog - has blasted the pair and promised harsh punishments for any repeat incidents.

BBC Trustee Richard Tait says, "It was a very offensive programme which should never have been recorded. Once the offensive phone call was made, the recording should have stopped and senior management alerted. It is a catalogue of editorial and management failures."

Mila Kunis Set for The Book of Eli

21 November 2008 1:53 AM, PST | From TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news

Mila Kunis (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) has joined the cast of The Book of Eli, the Denzel Washington action thriller from Warner Bros. and Alcon Entertainment. Albert and Allen Hughes are directing. The script, by Gary Whitta and a rewrite by Anthony Peckham, centers on a lone hero named Eli (Washington) who must fight his way across the wasteland of a near-future America to protect a sacred book that might hold the key to saving the future of humanity. Kunis plays a woman named Solara, at first enlisted to betray Eli, she ultimately joins him in his quest. Gary Oldman also stars in the flick as the dictator of a small makeshift town who’s determined to take possession of the book Eli is guarding. Kunis last starred in Max Payne opposite Mark Wahlberg. The actress is also starring with Ben Affleck and Jason Bateman in Mike Judge’s upcoming comedy,

Mila Kunis Reads The Book of Eli

20 November 2008 11:58 PM, PST | From www.canmag.com | See recent CanMag news

While I always found Mila Kunis attractive in that cute sort of way during her stint on That '70s Show she proved herself to be smoking hot in both Forgetting Sarah Marshall -- was that a real picture of her flashing? -- and Max Payne. Because of this, I now have reason to be envious of Denzel Washington.

Mila Kunis for The Book of Eli

I don't know if Denzel Washington has a thing for exotic dark-haired women, but he should appreciate some eye candy on the set of The Book of Eli. Warner Bros. has picked up Mila Kunis to co-star in the action thriller.

Mila Kunis Opens The Book Of Eli

20 November 2008 11:55 PM, PST | From EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news

The Book Of Eli just got a little sexier. Well, ok, a Lot sexier, with news that the awesome Mila Kunis has signed on to join the Denzel Washington action movie. In case you haven’t been paying attention lately, a quick reminder: the movie, the first to be directed by the Hughes Brothers, Albert and Allen, since From Hell, will see Washington play a warrior who must negotiate a perilous post-apocalyptic America in order to protect a book that may just hold the key to saving mankind. Kunis has signed on to bring her smoky voice and sultry, heavy-lidded eyes to the role of Sonara, a woman who is sent to betray Eli, but ultimately ends up joining his fight. Gary Oldman also stars – back on bad guy territory as a despot desperate to prevent Washington from saving the book. The role wraps up a great year for Kunis,

Kunis Joins Denzel

Mila Kunis' star continues to rise. After charming us this summer in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and dipping her pretty little feet into the action pool with the forgettable Max Payne, she was well on her way to becoming a bonafied leading lady. With her casting opposite uber A-lister Denzel Washington in the upcoming The Book Of Eli, she may have finally arrived. The film follows big, bad Denzel as Eli, a lone hero who must fight his way across the wasteland of a near-future America to...

Russell Brand Prepares For "Pirates Of The Caribbean 4" Film Role By Dressing As A Pirate Everyday

19 November 2008 11:59 PM, PST | From icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news

Russell Brand has been "dressing as a pirate every day" to get into character for the new "Pirates of the Caribbean" film.

The British comic star - who has previously starred in movies including "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and the upcoming "Bedtime Stories" - is doing everything he can to secure the part of Johnny Depp's on-screen brother in the fourth film in the franchise.

Speaking about the role, Russell is quoted as saying: "That would be really exciting if that does happen. I hope it does. There has been some talk about it but I think it's in its very early days. But I'm practicing by dressing as a pirate every day - just in case!"

It was recently revealed that Johnny will earn million for appearing as Captain Jack Sparrow in the new movie, the largest upfront payment in film history.

Review: Zack and Miri Make A Porno

16 November 2008 9:16 PM, PST | From The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news

Few things irritate me more than a theater chain that refuses to show a film because they deem it inappropriate. And that's just what Larry Miller's Megaplex Theaters in Salt Lake City, Ut did. Even though the MPAA gave the movie an R rating, Miller still opted to black ball it from his theaters. Funny thing is, they have no problem with torture porn, as they're currently showing Saw V. Come to think of it, Megaplex Theaters also had no problem showing Kevin Smith's own Clerks 2 back in 2006, a film that showcased, among other things, a man making love to a donkey. A bit of a double standard, don't you think? Perhaps Clerks 2 was more appropriate because it didn't have "Porno" in it's title.

This isn't to suggest that Zack and Miri isn't dirty. On the contrary, the film is loaded with verbal raunch, sexual activity,

Steve Carell Is Despicable

13 November 2008 1:12 PM, PST | From cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news

All-star voice casts really have no effect on making animated movies even better-- Pixar's movies are great without them, thank you very much-- but it sure is fun to see all those names in one sentence. Like with today's announcement that Steve Carell will voice the lead character in Despicable Me, Universal's first 3D-animated family movie. Carell will be joined by a whole host of people I'd love to hang out with a bar: Jemaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords Danny McBride from Tropic Thunder, Julie Andrews, Will Arnett, and like half the cast of Forgetting Sarah Marshall-- Jason Segel, Jack McBrayer and Russell Brand. The movie itself, as described by Variety, sounds pretty great as well. Carell's character is an evil villain to plots to steal the moon, egged on by his equally evil mom (Andrews); the only thing in his way is a trio of orphaned girls,

Brand Plays Gay For Girls

13 November 2008 8:10 AM, PST | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Funnyman Russell Brand has a unique way of charming women into bed - he pretends he is gay.

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star told U.S. chatshow host David Letterman that women feel less intimidated by his advances if they believe his flowing locks and flamboyant clothing mark him out as gay.

And the British comic insists the subterfuge is a sure-fire way of getting girls between the sheets.

He says, "In spite of appearances, I'm a heterosexual male. Because I'm so well dressed, people think, 'He must be gay. Look at his haircut, he must be gay. Look how sensitive and vulnerable he is, he must be gay.'

"That means women feel safe around me. They trust me. Then bang! Pregnant! Bang! Pregnant! Bang! Pregnant! Another generation. We continue."

New to Home Video: 'Kung Fu Panda,' 'Hellboy,' 'The Clone Wars'

11 November 2008 3:48 AM, PST | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

This is a good DVD week for geeks. Almost all of the notable new releases, at least those that are recent theatrical films and not Blu-Ray re-releases or TV shows, appeal to dudes. You would think this would be an excellent time for something that appeals to les femmes, but that doesn't appear to be the case this week. So, enjoy the sausage fest!

Hellboy II: The Golden Army

I'll go on record and say I'd like to see a trilogy for Hellboy, even though I didn't find either film so far to approach perfection. They've both got problems, but it's such a cool universe, particularly in the hands and mind's eye of Guillermo del Toro.

The sequel tried to be a summer blockbuster and really wasn't. Just imagine if they'd released it on Labor Day or even Halloween. It would've done much, much better, I think.

If you get the special edition DVD,

Jack Black's Larger Than Life Role in 'Gulliver's Travels'

5 November 2008 11:23 PM, PST | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

Shedding off his panda image from hit "Kung Fu Panda", Jack Black has taken a giant role in "Gulliver's Travels". The 39-year-old comedian is joining the 20th Century Fox's effort on bringing Jonathan Swift's classic tale into life by starring as the titular character Lemuel Gulliver in the studio's adaptation project.

As Gulliver, Black will portray a free-spirited travel writer who gets an assignment that sends him to the Bermuda Triangle. Jack Black Remaking 'Gulliver's Travels'

5 November 2008 10:12 PM, PST | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Jack Black will star in an adaptation of Jonathan Swift's 18th century classic, Gulliver's Travels, which will be fast-forwarded into a contemporary setting, according to Variety.

The new version will be directed Rob Letterman, who co-wrote and co-directed Shark Tale (and let's all hope he still carries that guilt around with him). On the plus side, he's also on board Monsters vs. Aliens, which looks very, very good. This will be a live-action version of the story, and locations for filming are currently being lined up with an eye on a March production start. The update was written by Nicholas Stoller, who directed Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Joe Stillman of Shrek fame.

The story has been made contemporary so that Gulliver is now a travel writer who winds up in the Bermuda Triangle, and then washes ashore in Lilliput, where he is met by the Lilliputians, obviously, who are
