Die Fälscher {English: The Counterfeiters] is based on The Commando of Counterfeiters (1983), a compilation of memoires by Jewish Slovak Holocaust survivor Adolf Burger of his time working as a currency counterfeiter in "Operation Bernhard", a secret Nazi project to destabilize the British economy by flooding the country with forged Bank of England £5, £10, £20, and £50 notes.
