No. Meet the Browns is based on a play of the same name, written in 2004 by the film's director Tyler Perry. Meet the Browns is the second movie in the Madea series, in which Tyler stars as southern matriarch Mabel "Madea" Simmons (among other characters). It was preceded by Madea's Family Reunion (2006). A third movie, Madea Goes to Jail is scheduled for release in 2009.

It's not adequately brought out in the movie (it IS talked about in the play and in Madea's Class Reunion (2003)) that Cora [Tamela J. Mann] had lived for 52 years knowing the man next door simply as "Mr Brown" before she suddenly learns that Mr Brown is her father. Old habits are hard to break.
